Soft brown patches mean rot from overwatering; lack of new growth in summer usually means too little light.
Propagates from offsets or pads left to callus before planting in dry soil.
Little pruning is needed — remove any damaged or rotten segments with a clean, sharp knife and let the cut dry before watering.
Feed once or twice in spring and summer with a diluted cactus fertilizer.
Repot every 3–4 years using gritty, fast-draining soil; handle with thick gloves.
Keep cool and nearly dry through winter to encourage flowering, then gradually resume watering as growth restarts in spring.
